Triathlon Junior Distances

Juniors race within a number of age groupings specified by the British Triathlon Federation. These age groups are based upon the ages of a competitor on the 31st December of the year in question. The standard distances by age group are detailed below. These are the maximum distance by age group and the distances vary especially for the younger age groups.

The Triathlon distances:

Tri Star Start – 8 years. Swim 50m/Bike 800m-1.5km/Run 600m
Tri Star 1 – 9-10 years. Swim 150m/Bike 2km-4km/Run1.2m- 1.5km
Tri Star 2 – 11-12 years. Swim 200m/Bike 4km-6km/Run 1.8m-2km
Tri Star 3 – 13-14 years. Swim 300m/Bike 6km-8km/Run 2.4m- 3km
Youths -  15-16 years. Swim 400m/ Bike 10km–12km/Run 3km-5km

The Duathlon distances:

Tri Star Start – 8 years. Run 400m/Bike 800m-1.5km/Run 200m
Tri Star 1 – 9-10 years. Run 1.2km/Bike 2km-4km/Run 400m
Tri Star 2 – 11-12 years. Run 1.6km/Bike 4km-6km/Run 600m
Tri Star 3 – 13-14 years. Run 2km/Bike 6km-8km/Run 800m
Youths -  15-16 years. Run 2.5km/ Bike 10km–12km/Run 2.5km

The Aquathon distances:

Tri Star Start – 8 years. Swim 50m/Run 600m
Tri Star 1 – 9-10 years. Swim 150m/Run 1.5km
Tri Star 2 – 11-12 years. Swim 250m/Run 2km
Tri Star 3 – 13-14 years. Swim 400m/Run 3km
Youths -  15-16 years. Swim 400m/Run 5km
