What is Triathlon?
Triathlon is made up of 3 disciplines, swimming, cycling and running - it is always in that order.
Transition is the area where you change from Swim to go on the bike and from when you finish the bike to going on the run.
There are different distances for the 5 age groups as follows, and age is at 31 December.
TriStart : Age 8 years
Swim - 50m
Cycle - 800m
Run - 600m
TriStar 1 : Age 9-10 years
Swim - 150m
Cycle - 2km
Run - 1.2km
TriStar 2 Age : 11-12 years
Swim - 200m
Cycle - 4km
Run - 1.8km
TriStar 3 Age : 13-14 years
Swim - 300m
Cycle - 6km
Run - 2.4km
Youth : 15-16 years
Swim - 400m
Cycle - 8km
Run - 3km
There are some variations to this; cycling on grass or tarmac, pool swim or open water swim.
